This happened on a car trailer, carrying three vehicles. The customer had a new drum installed by some local mechanic in his home town and the assembly wasn’t measured so the barrel of the wheel was grinding on the drum. This is actually his spare and he installed in on the side of the road after his original failed the same way. It ground down the studs so the wheel was loose and rubbing which eventually cause the face of the wheel to shatter apart.

Story is the owner is getting ready to sell it after it sat in a garage for 15 years. They bought it new in 2003 to replace another car - but that car didn’t end up being broken so they didn’t bother registering it or getting inspected.

My best flares are always the ones where I forget the nut first, which is usually the first or second of the day...

those brakes are truly scary.
we don’t have mandatory inspections here in Victoria,Australia but i’ve never seen brakes that bad in my 28years in the parts game.
